Many job seekers are unable to enter the workforce successfully. As far back as 2006, Connecticut’s Insurance and Financial Services (IFS) businesses report highlighted concerns that future industry growth may be endangered by the lack of skilled, readily available knowledge workers.

To help address these concerns, NAIP has developed an Internship/Apprenticeship Program in Insurance that provides industry exposure, preparation for professional licensure, and the work-place competencies necessary to begin a career in the insurance and financial services industry. The program begins with an orientation period geared toward creating the big picture. Participants will learn basic insurance concepts, be exposed to the many careers and entrepreneurial opportunities in the insurance and financial services industry and undergo career assessments to help determine which career path best fits their short and long-term goals.

 Working and training from home or in person, Participants will learn to:

  •  Provide superior customer service
  • Discuss various types of insurance policies
  • Answer client questions
  • Prepare quotes for auto, home, life, health, and business insurance.
  • Complete various applications
  • Finalize sales transactions

 Although customer service duties will vary between sectors, this Internship/Apprenticeship provides transferable skills that will serve you well in virtually any industry.

PROGRAM LENGTH:  Up to 2,000 hours.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 17.5 years of age; Read English at a basic level; Be interested in providing superior customer service; A High School Diploma is preferred but is not required.

PARTICIPANT SELECTION PROCESS: The candidate selection process includes an orientation; assessment testing; interviews to evaluate for attitude and enthusiasm for a new career, and ability to take direction and communicate. Each step is intense and allows both the job seeker and evaluators to assess the level of commitment.

PHASE I (Orientation): Participants will be introduced to career opportunities and entrepreneurial paths offered in the insurance and financial services industry.

PHASE II (Credentialing): In a virtual or in person classroom environment, participants will prepare to take and pass the following state licensing exams:

  •  Property and Casualty (Insurance)
  •  Life, Accident, and Health (Insurance)

The attainment of either license will allow the participants to legally perform the job duties of a Licensed Customer Service Representative, Insurance Sales Agent, or Claims Processor in the insurance industry. 

PHASE III (On-the-Job Training):  Working from home or onsite as conditions allow, participants will learn to provide excellent service over the phone, in-person, and online to consumers in the insurance and financial services industry.  

 PROGRAM INCENTIVES:  Weekly Compensation ($15.00-$17.00 per hour); Flexibility in Scheduling; 401(k) Plan; Health Care Coverage available after 3 months of employment.
